Learning Arabic


Cécile Verwaaijen (1968) is fascinated by the 'Other'. Uitburgeren¹  has become part of her life. Learning the Arabic language is part of this. With an open mind and armed with needle and thread, she searches for beauty and horror in an unknown world. Inevitably the visual language travels with her.

¹ Civic integration is an interactive process in which the government offers a specific program that allows native Dutch people to get used to the new social environment on the one hand, and on the other hand to help the natives recognize the foreigners as full citizens, with the aim of mutual and generous acceptance.
